Summer it not quite over. There are things you still want to do like take a trip, work on your tan or find the perfect recipe for a summer salad. And then there things you should do like workout, wear sunscreen or take the kids back to school shopping.
So how does one strive to do it all? As we asked our friends and family this question, we got inspired by one story in particular from Maya Zellman, founder of Maya Brigadeiro Brazilian Sweets. Maya’s brought her recipes for brigadeiro to the US after fond memories of trips to Brazil to see her family. Brigadeiro was served as a special treat on all family occasions; holidays, birthday, weddings, etc in the spirit of togetherness and the simple joy of a bite-sized treat. Maya’s offering of this sweet treat is just one side of the story though. She is very active person. She is a hip dancer who is always on the go. As we have gotten to know Mary we have found there are some survival tips in her story that are helpful for concurring long summer days and life in general. Here is what we learned:
Step One: Take loving care of yourself. Be Active. It is not just about looking good in a bathing suit, it is about feeling good. One good sweat a day really does keep the doctor away.
Step Two: Take time to slow down and enjoy time with others people. (pets count too!) Plan a beach day, take a family trip and/or host a summer dinner for friends and family.
Step Three: Don’t skip the rewards. For all the things you have to do, find time and ways to work in a little rewards. Sneak small bite size treats into you bag, schedule a quick spa treatment in the middle of the day and instead of jumping in the car only to be stuck in traffic after work, find a park to walk barefoot in the grass in.
We found another way to survive summer, we teamed up with Maya to bring you this month’s flavor of the month, Brigadeiro Caramels. Silky, rich brigadeiro (a Brazilian confection that resembles American fudge) our flavor of the month is brigadeiro layered on a thin layer of our classic sea salt caramel to create an international treat that dances on the tongue.
Stay tuned for an announcement that will help you reward yourself with sweet California treats on a monthly basis.
